U.S. Employers Must Now Use Revised Form I-9

A USCIS interim final rule that revises the list of documents employers may accept to verify a worker's identity and employment authorization went into effect on April 3, 2009. Employers must now use the new, February 2, 2009 edition of Form I-9. Employers may no longer use previous versions of the Form I-9.
USCIS has also released a new, April 3, 2009 version of the Handbook for Employers, Instructions for Completing the Form I-9. It shows changes to the list of approved documents that employees can present to verify their identity and now includes visual samples of these documents.
