Ifeanyi P. Udenze

Strategic alliance counsel Mr. Udenze was born in Nigeria, and received his Bachelor of Laws L.L.B. Degree in 1983 from the University of Nigeria. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 1984. He immediately enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria as a Barrister and Solicitor. Between 1984 and 1985, he was a Principal State Counsel at the Kwara State Ministry of Justice attached to the Armed Robbery and Fire Arms Tribunal. He successfully prosecuted many cases, which earned him the acclaim of the State Chief Judge. In 1985, Mr. Udenze joined the law firm of Chukwuemeka Udenze & Co. as a junior partner and subsequently rose through the ranks to become the Acting Head of Chambers in 1990.

At Chukwuemeka Udenze & Co., Mr. Udenze practiced extensively as a Solicitor and Advocate. He was personally in charge of Coca-Cola briefs and was exposed to practically all aspects of litigation at the Magistrate Courts, State and Federal High Courts, Federal Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.

In 1990, Mr. Udenze became the Assistant Secretary to the Enugu Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association and later served as Acting Secretary, Acting Treasurer and substantive Social/Publicity Secretary. On several occasions he attended the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Bar Association and was a candidate for the office of the First Assistant National Secretary in the 1993 failed Port Harcourt Convention. He also served as Legal Adviser and General Counsel to the Anambra State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.

Mr. Udenze is also actively involved in human rights issues. He is the founder and coordinator of Rights of Prisoners (ROP) and the Prisoners Legal Education and Assistance Scheme (PLEAS), a programme he founded and managed for Caritas International. This programme was responsible for the release of more than 70 prisoners who had been awaiting trial for more than 10 years.

Mr. Udenze is a skilled advocate and is well versed in the Nigerian Legal System. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association. His past and present clientele include, Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited; Nigerian Bottling Company PLC (authorized bottlers in Nigeria of Coca-Cola products); Rank Zerox Nigeria Limited (the document company); Caritas International (a Catholic NGO) represented in Nigeria by the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP); United Bank For Africa PLC; The National Electric Power PLC; The Leventis Group PLC and the Nigerian Union of Journalist Anambra State Chapter.
